Cleaning And Caring For My Sex Toys

One of the most important things that you have to consider when purchasing your sex toy is how to keep them clean and safe to use. Cleanliness is especially important if you intend to use them with more than one partner or on/in different parts of the body.

As sex toys come in many different materials, one method may not necessarily apply to all toys. It will also depend on whether the toy is battery or electrically powered.
Most toys will come with special cleaning instructions, so do follow these in addition to the tips given here.
Simple rules to follow are:

·        Don't submerge the part of the toy that holds the battery in water.
·        Remove batteries before cleaning and leave them out if the toy isn't to be used for long periods of time.
·        Oil products destroy latex. Use only water based products.
·        Don't immerse electrical sex toys in water.

Here are the different materials used to manufacture sex toys and the best method for cleaning each one:

For Electrical Toys

As these toys cannot be immersed in water, they should be cleaned using a damp, soapy cloth preferably an antibacterial soap and then allowed to dry in the sir. Store in a clean, dry place.

Usually used for PC muscle-strengthening toys. Wash with warm water and antibacterial soap and sterilised using an alcohol-soaked cotton wool ball (rinse well afterward.)

Silicone toys can be washed in warm, soapy water and sterilised using a Steriliser often used for baby's bottles. Alternatively, they can be run through a dishwasher or boiled washed for 2-10 minutes.

As rubber is more porous than silicone and can contain harmful chemicals i.e. phthalates, it is recommended that a condom be used with a rubber dildo. Wash with soap and water after use.

Clean with anti-bacterial soap. Do not boil wash. Alternatively, use alcohol and wipe clean with a damp cloth.

Stainless Steel

Use warm soapy water, boil wash for 10 minutes, soak in a 50/50 solution of water and bleach for 10 minutes or run through the dishwasher. Buff with a dry cloth.

Wash with warm, soapy water removing all grease and grime. When dry use saddle soap on a cloth to keep the leather supple and protected. Store leather in a cool, dry place to prevent mould forming.

For harnesses and toys wash in warm, soapy water, rinse and allow to dry naturally.

Cyberskin & Vinyl

Wash gently with warm water only. Allow to dry and sprinkle some cornstarch over to prevent stickiness.

Can be washed with warm, soapy water or placed in the dishwasher. Allow to dry naturally.

Clean jelly toys with warm water only. Do not use soap.

It is also possible to buy special sex toy cleaners that will inform you of the type of toys it can be used for. For example, Antibacterial Toy Cleaner is an antibacterial spray you can use in place of antibacterial soap.
By looking after your toys and cleaning them after each use, you can be assured that they will last for many years to come.
